I can understand why the Clintons are upset... under normal circumstances I might be rooting for Hilary in the hope that the Clinton double act might actually acheive something worthwhile. But times have changed, and recently.
We are no longer content to accept what we hear - we challenge, we question and when we feel uneasy about politic stories presented by media outlets supporting one party or another, we search for unbiased and independent answers on the Internet. We are delighted when Michael Moore exposes political hypocrisy. We are a million times more likely to think George Clooney understands us then George Bush. We know Bono is on our side and Blair was not.
And we worry more than anything that politicians are not listening to us. That their agenda is based on national interests and not on either personal or global ones. We all know already, that to save the world, we simply have to Save the Cheerleader - but the US government, like an episode of Lost seems to have a incomprehensible plot of its own.
Some have likened Barack Obama to a Rockstar - and this is another Sign of the Times. In the last decade or so, the Public has used stadium type venues to express discontent. Live 8 actually DID get some policy changes for Africa. Al Gore, maybe the last politician to crossover to nobel peace worthy rockgod status, really HAS got us all checking our Carbon footprints after Live Earth. To command a stadium, effectively the world stage, you have got to be a major act, with plenty of style and charisma - and you've got to deliver an act that is worth a standing ovation - you need political substance.
If only poor Hillary could be more like Madonna, changing with her public, building on her past success while still doing enough to attract new fans. Always able to fill a stadium. Instead, her image is like a successful business woman of the eighties - you really admire her for what she has acheived, but you don't really like her and are you are never really sure if she likes or will help you.
