Born in Italy in 1956, Raimondo Bultrini is a senior journalist of the leading italian newspaper la Repubblica with over 32 years of experience in journalism.

Bultrini spent the last 7 years traveling all over South and East Asia as correspondent for one of the bigger Italian editorial groups, La Repubblica/L’Espresso. He covered major events in Asia for the leading newspaper La Repubblica and the weekly Magazines L’Espresso, Il Venerdi’, the geopolitical revue Limes, the women magazine Repubblica delle Donne among others.

In 1975 he started working for the Italian communist newspaper L’Unità. His duties involved investigative reporting on major criminal and terrorist activities  From the 70s to the 80s he investigated sensitive political corruption cases in his country and wrote many special features articles on Mafia, Red Brigates and on the new fascist bloodbath killings which occurred in Italy during those years.

In 1986 he was first exposed to various oriental philosophies and he became director of the magazines “Oriente” and Merigar Letter, focused on asian politics and buddhism, while he was working for Paese Sera newspaper.

From 1987 to 1988 he was traveling throughout China and Tibet for one year and he published a book “In Tibet” on his experience following the professor Chogyal Namkhai Norbu, of the Oriental university of Naples and historian of Buddhist religions and bon. 

On his return to Italy he started to work for the Italian public tv Rai producing social, cultural and political documentary around the world for Samarcanda, Mixer e Format, focusing predominately on Asia. From 1993 he worked full time as political writer for the main Italian newspaper La Repubblica and in 1995 he published a fiction book based on a true story of the Italian secret service scandal “I Prefetti e la Zarina” edited by Pironti publishing house. Then he transferred to the international political section focusing on special interest articles on Asia.

 In 2000 he moved to Bangkok as South and East Asia correspondent for Repubblica - Espresso Group originating over 400 stories and articles all over Asia, traveling extensively from south to north, from far east to west. He produced as director film documentaries based on his travel experiences. After 9/11 2001 he covered the America/Afghanistan war from Peshawar and traveled in Afghanistan after the liberation from taleban regime.In 2002 he directed a film documentary on “Mother Teresa, a saint of India” broadcasted in several countries.

In 2004 he covered the Indian general elections and realized an exclusive interview with Mrs Sonia Gandhi. The same year he covered the tragedy of the Tsunami in South Thailand and Banda Aceh, producing a film broadcasted by the Italian channel La7.

 Among the many interviews to personalities of Asia, Bultrini had several meeting with H.H. the Dalai lama.    In 2005 he wrote the new introduction to the italian edition of the book of Aung San Suu Kyi “Free from fear”, by the Italian publisher Baldini & Castoldi. Technorati Profile
