Norman Bleehen was a clinical and research oncologist and a founder of
academic oncology in the United Kingdom, whose reputation was acknowledged
both nationally and internationally. He was the first Cancer Research
Campaign Professor of Clinical Oncology and Radiotherapeutics in the
University of Cambridge, where his department was particularly involved with
studies on the treatment of lung and brain cancer. The excellence of his
department laid the foundations for today’s major investment in Cambridge
and the establishment of the new Cancer Institute.
