Max Roach was only a teen ager when he started playing with the likes of Charlie PArker and Dizzy Gillespie
Roach started one of the most important quintet in 1953 with Clifford Brown.
After three years, Clifford Brown died in a car accident. He was 25.
Max Roach in grief buried himself in music, and in the civil rights movement.
"We Insist—The Freedom Now Suite" was a product of that period featuring, among others, Abbey Lincoln on vocals.
