Future Objectives

1. Because the entire Cidade Baixa, or low city, of Salvador has no social centers, meeting

halls, concert halls or even cinemas, the first priority of the ICBIE is to build a theater in

the large back courtyard of the premises, with seating for 350 people. An architectural

design, by Luigi Serafini and Giovanni Cerfogli, has already been prepared, with a projected

cost of $125,000. A portion of that sum has already been raised.

2. A complete, rather than partial, opening of the
Leonardo da Vinci International Library, a patrimony

of great cultural value and the center of the ICBIE spirit, with its books, musical

scores, CDs, videos and DVDs, in various European languages.

3. The creation of state-of-the-art production studios for music recording and for video.

Training in advanced digital technologies would provide quality professional development

for our students, while the facilities could also produce an income, through leasing fees

and by producing commercial products.

Collaborations

A vigorous spirit of cooperation has animated every aspect of the ICBIE’s foundation and

growth.

1. In 2004, the Italian branch of Service Civil International (SCI) set up a work camp at the

ICBIE, to restructure the building and to catalog the books in the Leonardo da Vinci Library.

2. In 2005, the Reggio Emilia chapter of ARCI (Italian Recreational and Cultural Association)

provided funding for the realization of the ICBIE Computer Laboratory.

3. Since 2006, The American Overseas of Rome, with its
Bridge to Bahia project, has provided

three volunteer language teachers, a student volunteer, shipments of books and educational

materials, a photocopy machine, a video projector and a digital camera, plus $7000 in

cash.

4. The Arps & Co. Gallery in Amsterdam has collaborated with the ICBIE in an assistance

program for the people of the alagados, and their gallery hosted an exposition of D’Artagnan

paintings in June, 2007.

5. The the mayor of the city of Salvador, João Henrique, sponsored the first international

tour of the ICBIE’s talented street artists, Julio and Bigod, who visitied five Italian cities in

September and October, 2007.

6. A new partnership with Rhythm of Hope Brazil (www.rhythmofhope.org) will create a

Center for Afro-Brazilian Culture inside the ICBIE and foster collaboration with American

accademics, studying and assisting grass-roots programs for social improvement.

7. Dozens of other associations, organizations, institutions and companies have collaborated

with the ICBIE on specific projects, events or cultural initiatives, and numerous negotiations

are underway for the future.
