Almiro is one of the great characters in Ribeira. He played with the Santos in the late 1950s alongside Pelé. He later played for the Cosmos in New York, together with Pelé, Beckenbauer, Chinaglia and other greats. At the end of his career he was playing in Portugal when, during a match, he was elbowed between the eyes and became blind. He now lives a few blocks away from the ICBIE.
